Fall Pilgrimage

November 2, 2024

Join us in walking from Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School to Father Kapaun’s Tomb at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on the anniversary of Father Kapaun’s capture.

Pilgrimage ends with Mass for All Souls Day.

“Honor the Saints by thinking of them, by taking them as examples.”

– Father Kapaun, All Saints Day 1943

Begin: Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School

There’s no better way to begin than in prayer before the crucifix that was carved in the North Korean Prisoner of War Camp in honor of Fr. Kapaun.

We will gather at 7:00 am in the Round, the main entrance of the high school. From there we will walk north to the St. Paul Parish and Newman Center at Wichita State University for a short break and opportunity for other pilgrims to join around 9:00 am.

End: Father Kapaun’s Tomb

Following the Redbud Trail, we’ll head downtown to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, where Father Kapaun’s Tomb is located.

The Pilgrimage will end with All Souls Day Mass around 11:00 am – anyone is welcome to attend the Mass, although the start time is subject to our arrival!

Pilgrims will need a ride back to their car after Mass.

“It is essential that the mark of a pilgrimage, besides prayer and penance, be the practice of love of neighbor…expressed in spiritual and corporal works of mercy towards those most in need.”

– Pope St. Paul VI

Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy

As part of our pilgrimage and in honor of Father Kapaun’s legacy, we will incorporate both the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.

For our hungry brothers and sisters, we’ll be collecting canned items for Our Daily Bread Food Pantry. Please bring them to the starting location.

For our spiritual works, we’ll pray for the souls of the departed, as well as any spiritual needs you might bring.
